Catholic Scripture Study - Lectio: Mary

Who is Mary? What does the Bible really tell us about her? And how can understanding Mary help us grow closer to Jesus?

In Lectio: Mary, Dr. Brant Pitre takes participants on a journey through Sacred Scripture to uncover the biblical foundations of what the Catholic Church believes about the Blessed Virgin Mary. Rather than simply focusing on traditions about Mary, this study invites us to look closely at the Bible and discover Mary’s role in God’s plan of salvation.

Throughout the study, participants will explore important questions about Mary, including:

Why does the Catholic Church call Mary the New Eve?
What does Scripture reveal about the Annunciation and Mary’s role as the Mother of Jesus?
Why is Mary called the Mother of God?
What is the biblical meaning of the Immaculate Conception and Assumption?
Why did Jesus give Mary to His disciples as their mother?
How can devotion to Mary lead us into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ?

Dr. Brant Pitre brings his extensive knowledge of Scripture and Catholic theology to this study in an engaging and accessible way. Participants will gain a deeper appreciation for the biblical story of Mary while discovering how her life points us continually toward her Son.

Schedule: This is an 8-week class. Classes will take place on Monday evenings and on Thursday mornings. Choose the day most convenient for you!

We begin with prayer, view the lecture, and then break into small groups to discuss the lesson.

We will view the lecture video with Dr. Brant Pitre at the beginning of each class, but you will also be able to watch the lecture at home if you miss a class.
